Introduction To Facilities Maintenance Class

Designed to build a skilled local workforce in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC, this program represents a major investment in the future of Kitsap County. Through collaboration with Olympic College, West Sound Technical High School, Lyons Painting, and Filtergirls, Tessera has brought this hands-on training initiative to life, empowering young adults with the tools and certifications needed to start careers in the trades.

Program Overview

Tessera’s Introduction to Facilities Maintenance Program is a comprehensive 160-hour, 10-week training experience located at West Sound Technical Skills Center in Bremerton, Washington. The program is designed to build foundational skills across the core building trades.

Students receive hands-on instruction in:

  • Carpentry
  • Electrical
  • HVAC
  • Plumbing
  • General Maintenance

This training prepares participants for general maintenance roles, OSHA credentials, and future opportunities in the trades. Students gain real-world experience using tools such as power saws, drills, and nail guns, and learn to work as part of a team to maintain and repair essential facilities equipment.

Application Process
& Student Expectations

The class is open to anyone 18 years or older, with applicants with a disability strongly encouraged to apply. Due to the hands-on, safety-focused nature of the program, students must be able to make independent decisions and safely perform both fine and gross motor tasks.

As part of the admissions process, all applicants complete an instructor-led screening, and final acceptance is determined by the instructor. Once an application is submitted, applicants will be contacted to schedule their screening. All applications are processed through Olympic College.
