Skookum employee Vinnie Brandt has been featured in SourceAmerica’s “Day in the Life” spotlight, highlighting how he leverages his abilities to excel in his role at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
Vinnie works the night shift at NIH, monitoring air supply systems critical to protecting sensitive medical research. His attention to detail and ability to focus on subtle changes in the system ensure that research conditions remain stable—work that directly contributes to life-saving discoveries.
Before joining Skookum in 2012, Vinnie was unsure of his career path. Through the AbilityOne® Program and Skookum’s support, he has gained valuable experience in facility management, HVAC, and plumbing. Now, he’s pursuing additional training to further his skills and continue advancing in his career.
Vinnie’s story exemplifies the strengths and contributions of employees with disabilities in the workforce. “People with disabilities bring unique skills to the table,” Vinnie shared. “When employers recognize those strengths and put them in the right positions, everyone benefits.”
