Veterans bring valuable skills to the workforce—discipline, teamwork, and a mission-driven mindset. Skookum, a nonprofit dedicated to creating job opportunities for people with disabilities and veterans, has been recognized by SourceAmerica for its success in maximizing veteran talent.
With 26 AbilityOne contracts across 12 states, Skookum provides facility and supply chain management, vehicle maintenance, and logistics support on military bases—work that naturally aligns with the skills and experience of veterans. As a result, one-third of Skookum’s workforce is made up of veterans, many of whom find a strong sense of purpose and camaraderie in these roles.
In recognition of this commitment, Skookum received the Hire-A-Vet award in 2020 for increasing employment opportunities for veterans. More than 300 of Skookum’s employees also work under the AbilityOne® Program, one of the largest employment sources for people who are blind or have significant disabilities.
By fostering an inclusive environment where veterans can thrive, Skookum continues to demonstrate the power of leveraging military experience in the civilian workforce.
